May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month

May is National Physical Fitness & Sports Month, and this year M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County encourages residents to "Live More, Play More"! Due to the COVID-19 pandemic impacting our nation, our May is National Physical Fitness & Sports Month celebration is being brought to you in a safer, socially-distanced way with a variety of outdoor and virtual offerings. 

Our “Live more, Play more” philosophy is for all ages. As we continue to connect you to fun and quality life-enriching sports and fitness opportunities, we are excited to introduce our newest addition to the Department—the Youth and Countywide Sports Division! We’ve stepped up to the plate to deliver sports and fitness programs to the residents of Prince George’s County, encouraging them to be more active while learning important life skills through participation.

We continue to support your path to wellness by offering a variety of sports, fitness, health, and wellness opportunities to help you get up, get fit & play!

Program Descriptions

Health Education & Nutrition

From FREE virtual healthy cooking demonstrations to workshops from trained healthcare professionals, there are many opportunities to engage in fun, interactive and educational sessions this month. You will learn everyday tips for healthy meal choices; discuss the latest updates in various health and nutrition topics, and how to make simple changes to benefit your overall health.

Outdoor Health & Wellness

Fitness and Yoga in the Parks are FREE outdoor programs that bring a variety of classes to parks and natural areas across Prince George’s County. Find the class that best suits your health and wellness goals and discover the benefits of exercising in nature. Ages 13 & up.  

The Get Fit Mobile unit brings FREE activities and structured play outdoors to local parks and trails for you and your family. Navigate through the obstacle course and achieve your best relay time. This event is fun for the whole family! Ages 4 & up.

Sports Programs

Youth of all ages are welcome to join us for a variety of FREE outdoor sports clinics including lacrosse, softball, baseball, soccer, volleyball, and futsal. Participants will be introduced to the core skills of each sport by our professional instruction team. Each clinic will conclude with a quick info session on future sports programs and all participants will leave with a special prize!

Virtual Sports, Health & Wellness Videos

Technique Tuesdays
Join us each week for a new sports skill video to help you stay healthy and keep your sports skills sharp while at home. This is another great resource to keep you connected to your favorite sport and to introduce you to new ones!

Wellness Wednesdays
Join us each Wednesday for new fitness, health education, and nutrition videos. This is another great resource to stay healthy and motivated on your path to wellness.
