Choreographers' Showcase

Six choreographers from Maryland, Virginia, and District of Columbia will present their dance works on camera, along with discussion of their individual artistic visions.
Enjoy this free virtual concert featuring short films by outstanding regional dance makers. Watch heartfelt dance works, filmed in iconic locations around the Washington, DC metro area, bringing to life the joys, struggles, triumphs, and tragedies of the year 2020.

World Dance Showcase

Our popular annual showcase gives you the opportunity to travel the globe from the comfort of your Publick Playhouse seat, when professional troupes perform dances from a panoply of cultural traditions. Breathtaking costumes, authentic music, and the enchanting grace of the dancers will make you feel like a world traveler. The 2021 World Dance Showcase will be presented FREE of cost as a virtual concert pre-recorded on the Publick Playhouse stage.
Auditions for World Dance Showcase 2021 will be by pre-recorded video only. Performers of traditional, culture-specific dance styles (ages 16 years and older,) residing in Maryland, Virginia, or District of Columbia, may apply. Applications will be accepted beginning December 14, 2020, until January 18, 2021. Six dance groups will be selected. Those selected will be invited to perform their dance(s) on stage at the Publick Playhouse on February 27 and 28, to be recorded professionally. Dances will be recorded with professional lighting designs to enhance the beauty of the performances, and create the feeling of a Publick Playhouse live event. These final videos will be edited together and streamed as a virtual concert on March 27, 2021. Each dance group selected by the adjudicators will be awarded an honorarium of $800.

Add your artistic voice to our Inspirational Dance Festival community of healing, comfort, and gratitude in this uplifting at home dance challenge. Using the theme “What the World Needs Now”, share your vision through dance on ways the community can heal together. Remember to have fun and be creative!
Up to six (6) video entries will receive a $200 stipend and be featured in a virtual program in April 2021.
Applicants must be residents of the DC Metropolitan area including Maryland, Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. Open to All Ages. Routines should be at least 90 seconds but no longer than 5 minutes. This virtual at Home Dance Challenge is in the style of but not limited to: inspirational dance, lyrical, modern, Hip hip-hop, and tap. Dance routines should be original choreography. Dancers can enter as a representative from local dance studio.
Prince George's Best Dance Crew Competition
The 2021 PGBDC Competition is canceled and will return in 2022Prince George’s Best Dance Crew is an annual distinctive dance competition that provides young dancers the opportunity to showcase the artistry and technique of the many styles and flairs of Hip Hop dance.
